The NBA season is five days away and we already have a big
trade on our hands with the Washington Wizards and the Phoenix Suns. You’d
never thought you’d see a big trade with these two…
The
Wizards receive: Marcin Gortat, Shannon Brown, Malcolm Lee and Kendall
Marshall.
The Suns
receive: Emeka Okafor and the Wizards first round pick in 2014. This pick is
protected through number 12.
My first
thoughts when hearing about this trade were, THERE GOES MY DEPTH CHART FOR THE
WIZARDS IN THE PREVIEW!!! But for the Wizards this makes a lot of sense. Gortat
and Nene will be a good four and five. Offensively they both score a majority
of their points around the rim that could lead to some issues with spacing.
With Gortat that means less time on the floor for Jan Vesley, this is a plus
for the Wizards. The Wizards also added Shannon Brown. Brown can heat up at any time and could
provide scoring off the bench. Malcolm Lee and Kendall Marshall won’t see a lot
of time on the floor they were just throw in’s. This trade will help the
Wizards chances of making the playoffs. Gortat and Brown are both on expiring
deals as well.
The Suns
They
trade for Emeka Okafor who’s going to miss the start of the season with a
herniated disk in his back. Okafor has a huge expiring contract. This trade is
all about the Suns tanking and trying to get Andrew Wiggins. With an opening at
center for the Suns look for their first round draft pick Alex Len to get a lot
of playing time. Speaking of first round draft picks, the Suns now have four
first round picks in the 2014 draft. The 2014 draft is projected to be one of
the deepest drafts ever.
Overall
this trade seems like a win for both teams. Remember to follow @Threwthenet for
all things NBA.
